Kgomotso Ndungane is beaming with pride after her husband, former rugby player Odwa Ndungane, obtained his bachelor of commerce degree.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the Real Housewives of Durban star spoke about the power of education and how her husband has been a leading example to their children.
“When he started his civil engineering business he was under the guidance and mentorship of the Teichmann Group. The main reason for Odwa pursuing his bachelor of commerce degree is to grow the business in knowledge,” she said.
Kgomotso is a mother of two children — Amahle, 12, who is a straight A student, and her brother Anathi, seven, who is following in her footsteps.
“They are also remarkable sports kids. Amahle is representing KwaZulu-Natal in netball and doing trials for the provincial swimming team. Anathi plays SA Kids Golf. We have set great standards and have been great examples to them.
“It’s been so inspiring to see what Odwa has done since hanging up his boots. He has not only gained a degree but has also built a remarkable civil engineering business, Ndungane Construction. He is also a SuperSport commentator and Hollywood Bets ambassador. He has made an impact through the sport he loves and by giving back to his community.”
Kgomotso has enjoyed success in the corporate world as an independent IT consultant and entrepreneur since 2005 before deciding to take a break two years ago to focus on motherhood.
“I decided to go on sabbatical and invest more time in my kids' sports and education. The foundation has been set. It is steady and I am looking at going back to corporate. I am actively looking for a job but the market is extremely difficult and it’s very concerning.”
While she waits to get back into the corporate world, Kgomotso said her husband's achievement has inspired her to pursue getting an MBA.
“I haven’t had plans for further studies since graduating from Pretoria University at 21, but Odwa’s graduation has motivated me to think of pursuing an MBA. Everything I set my mind on I try to achieve.”
