Music duo Thandeka Zulu and Sabelo Ngema of AfroSoul have cancelled their concert which was set to take place on June 15 at The Playhouse in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
The concert was due to showcase artists including Mbuso Khoza, Zakwe, Naima Kay and dancers from their academy.
On Tuesday, through their Ikabawo Arts Academy, AfroSoul released a cancellation statement to their fans.
“After extensive discussions with the officials from The Playhouse Company, an agency of the department of sports, arts, and culture, we have unfortunately been unable to reach a successful agreement. Initially, we were optimistic about a fruitful partnership as the CEO offered us a gratifying deal to return to The Playhouse Company for the concert. However, on receiving the contract, we were met by surprising terms requiring us to pay upfront fees, which was not part of the initial accord.”
TshisaLIVE spoke to Sabelo, who expressed disappointment about the situation which led to the cancellation.
“It's a big disappointment because the event was going to bring employment, specially for dancers from our Ikabawo Arts Academy, and artists we've collaborated with in our previous projects. For AfroSoul it was going to showcase our God-given talent over the years.
“It came as a shock to see a huge organisation like Playhouse is failing to meet us halfway. I don't want to talk badly about The Playhouse Company because we're going to use them in future performances. The letter was directed to our fans to let them know the concert has been cancelled.”
