The family of rapper Lehlogonolo Chauke, known as Shebeshxt, has thanked EFF leader Julius Malema for paying his medical bills after he was hospitalised due to a car crash that claimed the life of his nine-year-old daughter on Saturday.

Family spokesperson James Magoro told TimesLIVE Malema paid the medical bills after the family reached out for help.

“Immediately after we were faced with this tragedy, we contacted him [Malema] and he was able to get Shebeshxt out of the public hospital and transferred to a private hospital within a few hours. Malema covered all the medical costs,” he said.

The rapper is still recovering in hospital.

His daughter Onthatile was a grade 3 pupil at Northern Academy in Polokwane.

“Our Northern Academy family is deeply affected by this loss,” the school said. “During this difficult time we extend our heartfelt condolences to Onthatile's family, friends and those who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this unimaginable loss.”

The family described Onthatile as “an angel”.

“She was the angel who warmed our hearts. In this time of grief we appeal for your empathy, consideration, space and time to deal with this tragic news.”

Many supporters of Shebeshxt have conveyed messages of comfort to him for the loss of his daughter.

Videos of Onthatile and Shebeshxt singing and dancing together have shot up trends lists on social media.

Malema showed his support to Shebeshxt as the rapper performed at EFF election events.
