Bryce “DJ Ankletap” Clarke, popularly known as Malume Pompo, got candid about considering taking his own life.
The YouFM presenter revealed this during his interview on Podcast and Chill.
Ankletap said after getting a divorce from his partner and losing his relationship with Metro FM host Candice Kadesh, he fell into depression.
"I thought about ending my life. but I'm this happy guy on radio, I'm this funny Malume Pompo but I get home and end it all," he said.
Ankletap recalled spending a month looking around his house for a place where he could hang himself, even going as far as buying the rope and testing it in his garage.
"This failed attempt cost me R11,000. I ripped the garage door. In that moment I sat and cried for maybe three or four hours. I sat on that floor with my broken garage around me and I sobbed. I realised in that moment that I needed help."
Ankletap spoke of losing close friends who were in showbiz who took their own lives.
"So many people around me, so many people in the industry, don't speak about their mental health. I was very close to HHP, I was close to Riky Rick, and I was close to other people who went on to take their own lives."
Ankletap spoke of J Molly's recent attempt to take his own life on Instagram Live, calling it another "classic of people not understanding what it is like to love someone with depression".
J Molly said he has had “suicidal thoughts every day since childhood” and was possessed by the thought of ending it all due to immense suffering when he went on social media recently.
“It's utterly vile and ignorant to accuse me of doing such a thing like that for a PR stunt, to get more likes. I have attempted suicide 200 times. I have been on the brink and I have been [nearly successful] about 14 times. Did I publicise that? No. This is the first incident where I publicised it,” he said.
Ankletap said he was glad J Molly found help and was alive.
