Actress Dawn Thandeka King has earned herself an awards nomination.

The 2024 Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and TV Awards nomination ceremony on Thursday night at Coastlands Skye Hotel in Umhlanga, Durban, saw Dawn nominated for Best Supporting Actress with Hope Mbhele and Slindile Nodangala.

The awards ceremony is to take place on July 20. The venue is yet to be announced.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Dawn welcomed the nomination.

“It's more than an award, more of a recognition for the creative arts industry, but I'm happy about a nomination. It proves our work doesn't go unnoticed. Everyone who's nominated deserves the award and putting our province on the map,” she said.

The awards aim to recognise outstanding achievement and excellence in KwaZulu-Natal.

Nominees include actors, producers, directors and film and TV technicians. In response to the surge of reality shows in KZN and their affect on the province’s film and television industry, the KZN Tourism and Film Authority introduces a new innovative public participation category.

“This category focuses on reality TV and invites the public to engage in the nomination and judging process through the social media public voting system. Entries are open until June 28.”
