No laughing matter chasing bad borrowers, says Trevor Gumbi about new Mzansi Magic presenting gig

Comedian Trevor Gumbi says it won’t be at all funny when he comes after you to make you pay back the money you owe. 

Gumbi has been unveiled as the new host of the third season of Mzansi Magic’s Wang’Kolota, which starts airing on August 18. The show shines a spotlight on individuals who openly spend money while neglecting to pay their debts.

Gumbi and his crew step in to help lenders struggling to retrieve money they are owed from borrowers.

Trevor told TshisaLIVE he didn’t know what to expect when he auditioned to be on the show, but said he was happy about the new challenge.

“It won’t be a funny business chasing the borrowers. The support I have got from Mzansi Magic has been great — they feel like family. I'll be chasing people to pay back the money. I know first-hand what it’s like to owe people — emotions are always there, and it’s not funny,” he said.

Director of local entertainment channels at MultiChoice Shirley Adonisi said she was excited about Trevor hosting the show. 

Adonisi said they had taken the necessary precautions to film the show. 

“It’s not just about going to get what’s owed to you, since there might be legal implications to that. Consent from all parties is crucial. For this reason, the show asks a lawyer for advice about the most suitable legal method of seizing the person’s property to find ways to repay the debt — if it is necessary to do this.”
