Convicted kwaito star Brickz got a taste of the outside world when he performed with a prison choir at Grace Point church in Fourways recently.
Brickz, real name Sipho Ndlovu, is serving his 15-year jail sentence at Leeuwkop maximum facility after he raped a 17-year-old relative in 2013.
The Tjovitjo hitmaker has been singing gospel tunes behind bars.
When contacted about the performance at Grace Point church, Brickz's grandmother Adelaide Mabaso said she was proud to see him stick to the teachings he was raised with.
“He comes from a good family and he was raised in church. At least he is proving he hasn't lost touch with his singing abilities,” she said.
A close friend of Brickz, who did not want to be named, told TshisaLIVE the singer is in good spirits and glad to have performed outside prison for a change.
“Anyone in his position would be happy to do what he loves, especially now as he has switched back to gospel. He once said gospel music calms him and reading the Bible gets him by daily.”
Meanwhile, Brickz is at loggerheads with his 16-year-old son Gugulethu Cleopas Ndlovu, aka Google Da DJ, about his decision to pursue a DJing career rather than focus on his schoolbooks.
