Maskandi legend Phuzekhemisi is happy to be part of a panel of judges on SABC's new reality show uShuni Womhlaba. The show will debut on SABC1 on July 7 at 6pm, with Mpumi Mlambo and Mandla “Njinji” Magwaza as the hosts.
The veteran musician will join the judging team that also includes rapper Big Zulu, Sho Madjozi and Msaki.
It is understood they were chosen to bring a blend of expertise to balance the mix of musicality, performance and technicality required.
Phuzekhemisi said he is grateful for the opportunity.
“SABC thinks for us as artists, like I've been on stage on Ezodumo and Roots over the years, the channel has been supportive to us traditional musicians. I'm happy they've decided to take this approach,” he said.
“Now it's up to the contestants to show their talent through this show.”
The regional audition dates have been announced. These are: at Kwa Mai Mai in Gauteng, June 22-23; The Playhouse Company in Durban, June 29-30; Emalahleni Civic Theatre in Emalahleni, July 6-7; and Lusikisiki Health Resource Centre, 13-14 July.
