Kwaito singer Juelz has welcomed the appointment of Gayton McKenzie as sport, arts, and culture minister.
McKenzie is leader of the Patriotic Alliance.
On Sunday he was appointed to the sport, arts, and culture portfolio by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Shahriar Chowdhury, better known as Juelz, is from Dhaka in Bangladesh and has been in South Africa for more than a decade, working with artists including Emtee, ATM, Saudi and Sjava.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Juelz said he is happy that an energetic person will attend to the industry's demands.
“He sounds like a man of his word. He should assist in promoting upcoming artists to get money to survive. Otherwise, the music mafia will control this industry and talent will run away from what they love,” he said.
“Gayton has tasted the entertainment scene when he used to co-own ZAR with Kenny Kunene; both of them know the day-to-day struggles of being an artist in this country, so I have faith in him that we as artists won't cry no more, our demands will be met.”
Radio personality Mo Flava as well as DJ Master KG were among other celebrities who reacted to McKenzie's appointment.
