Gauteng ANC secretary Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza is to address the Amapiano Africa Summit in Newtown, Johannesburg.
The event, which kicked off on Thursday, will see TK, who has more than 20 years' experience in the music business with his record label TS Records, speak on the impact of amapiano.
“The genre is an economic [force] that should be supported. It has employed a lot of young people, from influencers [to] DJs and musicians, it has a huge impact in society,” he told TshisaLIVE.
“For me, I love the way they write their music, how they express where they are as a younger generation. It's a genre that needs to be celebrated by all of us. We should give it the support it deserves, just like how overseas they support theirs. It's something we export, like you can see what Tyla is doing overseas,” he said.
Asked if he still has an interest in the music business, TK said he now has a new responsibility that comes with a lot of challenges and needs his attention.
“I'll always interact with the music sector because that's where I come from, and I'm proud of that because it has prepared me for the journey I find myself in today.
“I'll be talking to young people as I always do, talking about something I've got passion for and something I believe should be done.
“Amapiano is our pride and this generation has done it on their own. We should do more, support them more, support them to tour Europe, Asia and other continents.”
