Booth nightclub owners speak on the misconceptions about the clubbing business
“The misconception about the nightlife and clubbing business is that there is a lot of drug dealing and money laundering.”

While the nightclub industry might be seen as an industry ruled by drug mafias and money laundering, Booth Night Club CEO Tajudeen Abolore Jaji and his business partner DJ Mthi HD say they have been able to successfully run a clean business for eight years.
To celebrate the milestone, Booth will host a three-day soirée set to be attended by A-listers from July 26 to 28.
Situated in the “richest square mile in Africa”, Sandton, Johannesburg, Booth Nightclub has hosted renowned local and international stars including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Kizz Daniel, 2Face, Flavour, American rapper Bas and Jamaican Artist Beanie Man, among many others.
“Booth is known the world over to be a premium nightclub destination and it is appreciated for the electric energy, innovative entertainment, and unparalleled guest experience,” says co-founder Tajudeen Abolore.
“People love to have a great time, they love good music, socialising, and coming together. The misconception about the nightlife and clubbing business is that there is a lot of drug dealing and money laundering. That is not always the case, especially not for us. The nightlife and clubbing business is an integral part of show business, this is where artists get booked and careers are built and we respect the craft and the value of the business.”
Running a nightclub is not just all about partying as it is still a business, Tajudeen says. There are many challenges that they often have to overcome.
“The nightlife market is very competitive; keeping the club relevant and attractive to customers requires constant innovation in terms of events, promotions, and overall atmosphere. Economic fluctuations have been one of the biggest challenges, but we try by all means to understand the buying power and we then align the business with the factors that influence income.”
While they are content with their achievements thus far, Tajudeen and DJ Mthi HD have big plans to expand their business.
“We started off as one entity which then gave birth to other outlets in spaces of liquor and became a key account group. We plan to grow even more, create employment and globalise the brand, going into other parts of Africa.”
