Miss World South Africa top 10 finalist and audiologist Romanda Hombir aims to bring change in her community.

To commemorate Mandela Day on July 18, the pageant queen was involved with providing food for 200 people at Edenvale Hospital and donated books, food and snacks at Thabisong Day Care Centre in Alexandra. Romanda also assisted more than 60 children with free health screenings and had an opportunity to share stimulating exercises with the teachers.

But that is just the tip of the iceberg, says Romanda, as there's more that she does to make a difference.

On Saturday, she officially launched her charity project “Caring Purpose” where she assisted 62 people at Bophelong orphanage and old age home in Mamelodi East with free health screenings and donated food to them as well.

“I am passionate about igniting positive change by serving my community. With the platform I have I aim to embody hope, empowerment and positive transformation,” she told TshisaLIVE.

While her recent outreaches might form part of the build-up for her road to Miss World SA, Romanda said these are all projects that are close to her heart.

She's studying for an MSc degree in audiology at UCT focusing on addressing falls in older adults to promote healthy living in alignment with the WHO goals for quality health care for all.

“I hope my different engagements can reflect the work I’m doing to ensure equitable access to quality health care. My Beauty with a Purpose project for the Miss World South Africa pageant is Caring Purpose, a charity dedicated to eradicating health poverty and providing free accessible quality health services for those in need. We collaborate with other nonprofit organisations and local health facilities to ensure continuation of care and increase health awareness in underserved populations.

“I would like to be a beacon of inspiration for fellow citizens to take responsibility for our communities and to not be afraid to get involved in shaping the country we would love.”
