One thing about public relationships is that they often lead to a very public break-up.

While a lot of these are fairly amicable, Lebo Keswa's marriage to actress and singer Letoya Makhene goes down as one of the messiest splits in celebville.

Weeks after officially announcing her split from her longtime partner, Lebo candidly spoke to TshisaLIVE about what she claims she endured in her marriage laced with abuse, drugs and infidelity.

Before going public to tell her side of her story, the businesswoman said she had to undergo lots of therapy.

“This is a bit of a difficult period for me but I am taking it very well because it's only now the public has found out what has been happening in my marriage, but I've had ample time to deal with it because it happened a few months back,” she said.

“I'm in a good space because I've gone through all the emotional turmoil. The only turmoil I had to deal with was my inner turmoil. It's taken a lot of people, and it's taken a lot from me, I've had to seek help and consult with my psychologist, I've had to do counselling with my kids, I've had to speak to life coaches, I've had to go back home for prayer more than anything else.”

She acknowledged she turned a blind eye when things were questionable in her relationship because she was fixated on her future with Letoya, but she forgot her values and principles in the process.

“The more I open up about this the more I realise the red flags have always been there. I was blinded by love. I did not want this marriage to end. I wanted Letoya to close my eyes [when I die]. I became ignorant of every single thing. It happened with the kids, it happened with friends and family, it happened with our finances, it happened with our religious beliefs.”

When asked if she would get married again, Lebo said she is open to finding love in a world “that is full of beautiful and kind people”.

“This experience, for as long as it lasted, has taught me what love is. I know what I've got to offer, and I don't see why I can't give that to someone else, who I am praying will reciprocate this time around.”
