KwaZulu-Natal creatives and dignitaries visited the homestead of the late TV personality Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule on Tuesday.
The Crown Gospel Awards founder and Ukhozi FM presenter died in the early hours of Monday at Parklands Hospital. Members of Ukhozi FM management, Zweli Mkhize, Podcast Affirmations host Nokuthula Khasibe, AfroSoul singer Thandeka Zulu, Gagasi FM DJ Happygirl, DJ Cndo, were among those who visited her homestead in La Mercy, Durban.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Khasibe said she knew Mbokazi through the media and the inspirational work she did in society. “Zanele was an inspiration to me and certainly other women because she constantly made things happen and really worked hard to promote KZN. Today, we've lost a mother, and there's nothing we can do but continue where she left off as a powerful woman in the country,” she said.
Thandeka Zulu said: “We sent our condolences to the family and let them know that we feel the pain they're going through. I first met Zanele when I started dancing for the Crown Gospel Awards back in 2011. Then, in 2015, she gave me a chance to be an ambassador together with Itumeleng Khune and Tha Simelane for the Future Leaders Awards. I’m lost for words that she’s no more. It’s heartbreaking.”
Gagasi FM's DJ Happygirl [real name Happiness Ndlovu] said she was successful because of the contribution Mbokazi made in her life. “I have lost a mother, a superhero. People today know DJ Happygirl because of the role Zanele played in nurturing my talent,” she said.
“I think we, as women, have to pull up our socks and soldier on like he did in society because this queen will no longer be with us except in spirit ... I send my heartfelt condolences to her family.”
