From being a bartender to turning into a superstar overnight, DJ Sparks Bantwana's humble beginnings paved the way for him to succeed in music.
Real name Mbuso Pepu, the DJ has worked with Vetkuk and Mahoota on his musical project Sohamba NGO 7.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, he said collaborating with Vetkuk and Mahoota on the project was an enriching experience that significantly impacted his artistic journey and the broader community.
“Their approach to music and social initiatives is deeply rooted in cultural expression, which resonated with my vision as Sparks Bantwana the artist.
“The process of working alongside Vetkuk and Mahoota was marked by camaraderie and shared purpose.
“From the outset, their passion for using music as a vehicle for social change was evident. This shared commitment fostered an environment where creativity flourished, allowing us to explore musical styles while addressing important societal issues. The synergy between our artistic visions created a dynamic atmosphere that not only inspired me but also encouraged innovative thinking,” he said.
The musician said he drew a lot of inspiration from the veteran artists.
“Throughout the collaboration, I felt a deep sense of respect for their expertise and experience in the industry. Vetkuk and Mahoota brought a wealth of knowledge about blending traditional sounds with contemporary beats which enriched my own understanding of music production. Their mentorship allowed me to grow as an artist, pushing me to experiment with new techniques and themes in my work”.
The former bartender said Vetkuk and Mahoota’s contributions were instrumental in shaping his brand identity as Sparks Bantwana. They helped refine his musical style, integrating elements reflecting his roots and contemporary influences. The fusion not only broadened his appeal but also positioned him as an artist deeply connected to cultural narratives.
“Their involvement in Sohamba NGO 7 also provided a platform for visibility within the community. By associating with such respected figures in the industry, I gained credibility that enhanced my reputation as an artist committed to social causes. The project served as a testament to our collective dedication to uplifting marginalised voices through music.”
