DJ and producer AirBurn Sounds, real name Thabo Mahundla, is counting the days to the release of his single Parmalaat featuring OHP Sage on August 30.

The single is an amapiano and dance song dedicated to women to close off Women’s Month.

“Everyone knows the dairy company Parmalat. It was a play on a slang word describing a fine, beautiful woman. So, when you compliment a gorgeous woman you’d say ‘Gwano ke parmalaati jo’,” he told TshisaLIVE.

“The song is an ode to all the beautiful women out there, giving them a compliment. It’s a fun dance song, something you play in the summertime while driving along the beach or with friends. It's playful and nothing too serious. My music has been motivational and addressing the longing for success, so the song is just a fun and playful song.”

AirBurn has kept a humble and modest career in the background producing hits for major artists such as Master KG, Nomcebo Zikode, DJ Tira, Makhadzi, Temwah, Zanda Zakuza, Mr Brown, Boity, Rethabile Khumalo and Nokwazi.

It hasn't been an easy journey, he admits.

Despite facing challenges, including a recent home raid by his former collaborator, AirBurn Sounds is moving forward with excitement, having just signed with international label Cr8ive Tribe (US & Jamaica).

He believes the new deal marks a significant milestone in his journey to success.

“It has been long overdue. It’s something we have been discussing for a few years. I was at another label before this and Open Mic before that, while under Strangefruit Management. So, the deal sounded great. They will be releasing my full EP which we will tout in the US and the UK.

“I have been exploited by many labels. I have been making music since I was nine years old and everything I have been through has been a build-up to this moment. I have found a team whose vision aligns with mine. It’s a cut-throat industry, everyone is ruthless and looking out for themselves. To find a team that believes in your dreams is a blessing.”
