Dladla Mshunqisi is gearing to expand his brand.
On Wednesday, the Durban-based Gqom singer announced the return of his Usuku Lomshunqo Music Festival. This ahead of his upcoming the song Yini Lengaka, which features Goldmax, DJ Tira and Siboniso Shozi and is expected to be a party starter as the country ushers in warmer weather.
"The 5th annual Usuku Lomshunqo Music Festival returns after a two-year hiatus with exciting new changes including moving to a new venue. Having been staged in KwaMashu’s Artizen Lounge and Wiseman Carwash respectively, it moves to Berea Rovers, Stamford Hill, in the Durban CBD on the 30th of November 2024," he told TshisaLIVE.
“After Covid-19 things were never the same, and the lack of sponsors forced us to pause the event. But due to popular demand, we are excited to return to a bigger and better venue with an even more exciting line-up of my industry colleagues,” said Dladla Mshunqisi. Billed to perform are Q Twinz, DJ Tira, Beast, Duncan, Zakwe, Big Zulu, Ayanda Ntanzi, Kabza De Small, Dlala Thukzin, Lerato Kganyago, Somizi, Sizwe Mdlalose, Gagasi FM’s Sphectacula, DJ Naves, Sonic and DJ Happy Gal.
The Omunye hitmaker said he was also venturing into the food business with a mobile kitchen he called 'Mshunqo Bites', saying it's vital to feed the nation and crucial for artists to have a secondary source of income. His business will now be based in Greyville, Durban.
“As creatives we do not always get bookings, hence it is important to have other income streams, we sell traditional food, fries, hamburgers etc. The first Mshunqo Bites was at Game City in Morningside, now I'm happy that we've moved to a permanent spot in Greyville,” he said.
Afrotainment boss DJ Tira told TshisaLIVE he was excited to witness the growth of Dladla.
"All I want is to see people I work with grow, I'm so excited to see Dladla Mshunqisi pushing his brand and taking it to the people, can't wait for November 30."
