King Monada is in hot water after he allegedly skipped his court appearance.
This comes after he was scheduled to defend his dispute with Limpopo Legends Awards organiser Mphoza Mashabela for allegedly refusing to pay back booking fees for the awards ceremony despite twice not pitching.
The court case was set for September 2 at Ritavi magistrate’s court in Tzaneen, Limpopo. It is alleged the singer was a no-show.
Sources involved in the matter told TshisaLIVE the Lemenemene hitmaker gave his legal team an instruction to remind him on September 1 about the court hearing as he was away performing elsewhere.
“His legal team reminded him but he chose to skip court, which left the courtroom stunned as he was the one who brought in a notice of defence to the letter of demand delivered to him to refund the organiser, which he has been failing to pay for two years,” said a source.
Another source said: “King Monada disappointed his legal team with his no-show. They requested a postponement so the matter can be finalised. He has proved again he isn't taking things seriously.”
TshisaLIVE has learnt the matter has been postponed to September 30.
Attorney Thobejane, who represents Limpopo Legends Awards organiser Mphoza, expressed his disappointment to TshisaLIVE: “What makes me angry is that I had to travel from Gauteng to Limpopo for the matter. He must explain why he cannot refund the money. We'll continue with or without him in court.”
Last month, promoter Eric Thoka claimed King Monada didn't pitch at his All White Picnic at Baroka Village in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo.
“We had an event on January 1. He didn't come and we requested him to refund us. He asked if we'd have another event so he can come and rectify the mistake. We were dealing with him and his manager. It was [one] arrangement after another, to a point where they started not picking up our calls, so for us to communicate with him we'd use different numbers.
“We resorted to seeking legal advice as we were getting nowhere with his antics. We'd see him at other events and he had his own events. We didn't understand why he wasn't giving back our money. He was disrespecting us. I think he thought we were small boys and we can't do anything about it. We left everything with our lawyers”.
