More needs to be done to protect women, says socialite Serge Cabonge

Socialite Serge Cabonge feels the country is not doing enough to protect women.

He was speaking after the Women Dialogue Gender Equality and GBVF event at Radisson Red hotel in Rosebank, hosted by the Kwela Tebza brothers and aimed at empowering women and protecting against violence.

The former blesser told TshisaLIVE more such initiatives were needed.

“I am someone who is anti women abuse. As a respected businessman it pains me to see this happening. I am raising a daughter right now alone and I would not want her to go through that trauma. Women exploitation is wrong and should be condemned. The abuse of women, GBV, is something the government must continue to discourage and arrest the perpetrators”, he said. 

Serge further states that said South Africa's constitution was respected everywhere in the world and protected women's rights.

“But I feel sometimes we are let down by our own men who don't respect our women. We can't encourage such behaviour. At the end of the day the law must take its course when it comes to GBV”, he said.

Serge said he looked forward to hosting marches across Johannesburg to raise awareness about gender-based violence,

“The march in honour of women, I can lead it and make sure it's a success. Just tell me the time, venue and the province if it's in South Africa. I will be there. No doubt about it,” he said.
