Tyla is dismissing haters after she seemingly asked Halle Bailey and Lil Nas X for help holding her MTV VMA trophy.
The South African-born singer won the MTV Video Music Award 2024 for Best Afrobeats at Wednesday night’s ceremony at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. She made history as the first female African artist and first South African artist to win a VMA.
When she went up to the stage to receive her trophy, Tyla asked Lil Nas X to hold it while she was giving her acceptance speech, but social media users quickly speculated t the singer was asking Halle to carry it for her.
After Tyla faced criticism on social media, she took to her timeline to respond.
“Y'all make everything weird. I was not asking my girl Halle. We just girls. STFU I won a VMA.”
Halle responded to the post: “Exactly. Love you babes. Congrats.”
❤️ thank youuuu
