Soul music DJ Young is set to dazzle the audience at the fifth birthday celebration of the Imbizo Shisanyama in Midrand.
The celebration is taking place on Sunday at the Imbizo Shisanyama and performances are scheduled from DJ Young supported by Tshepcide Mlk, DJ Smith and DJ FM.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Senzo Mhlongo from Imbizo Shisanyama said the past five years, which included the Covid-19 pandemic, had been a combination of both immense happiness and immense difficulty.
“We all know what we went through globally during those years, but we keenly know how it affected the hospitality sector as a whole. Throughout the ups and the downs, the patrons have stood by our side guiding us as to what they would like as well as what they'd like to improve for them to continue giving us patronage. We are grateful to have been part of this journey,” he said.
When asked what the past five years signified, Mhlongo said: “The past five years for us signify that there is a market for an authentic shisanyama in an urban environment. Previously authentic shisanyamas were seen as something to only be enjoyed in the informal economy of the township, with chiefly meat grilling establishments monopolising the urban spaces in terms of the meat lovers' market.
“The past five years are therefore proof for us and the industry that an authentic shisanyama has a place in the urban environment too.”
