Reality TV star and presenter, Nonkanyiso “LaConco” Conco, is beaming with pride after receiving her first Safta award nomination.
LaConco is nominated under the Best TV Presenter category (based on public vote) for her delivery on Mzansi Magic's Forever Thina. This milestone comes after nearly four years in the entertainment industry.
LaConco hosted a dinner for her close family members and industry friends at Brown Sugar Oceans in Umhlanga to celebrate the achievement.
“I'm truly grateful and humbled by this recognition,” she told TshisaLIVE.
“I found out [I was nominated] when I went onto Instagram. My friends and family are excited for me and are supportive of me. This is my first nomination since being in the industry for three to four years. I work so hard with my heart and soul. I didn't know that my hard work would be recognised so soon.”
LaConco said when she recently attended the Safta nominees toast hosted by Netflix, she was shocked to find out that there were women who came before her who were only now being nominated and others who still had not received a nod from the organisation.
“I met a woman who said she has been in the industry for 36 years and this is her first nomination, so that humbled me.
“God has done his kindness. I'm not in it to to say I'm winning it, but it's a reminder that God will uphold his children. What I said when I was with the women in Jamaica [for The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip], was if God gives me a phase where I'm down, it doesn't feel like a fall because I'm right next to God.”
