DJ and producer Ezra Mlotshwa has released his latest Afro-house track, Impi Ye Mpilo, a collaboration with artists Nkosazana Daughter and Kabza De Small.
The song addresses life’s challenges from male and female perspectives, aiming to inspire resilience and hope.
With a background in event co-ordination and a commitment to collaboration, Ezra continues to evolve his artistic vision.
He also notes his distinct style, rooted in his earlier days with the Golden Boys and the Ashmed Hour, is gaining appreciation among fans.
TshisaLIVE spoke to the star about his music and future ventures.
Tell us about the inspiration behind this Afro-house song? What message were you aiming to convey?
Music plays a huge role in people's day-to-day perspective and outlook on life. My intention with Impi Ye Mpilo is to remind them to keep going, even when the odds are against you.
How did you and Nkosazana Daughter collaborate on this track? What was the creative process like?
When I went to Kabza to work on the song, he didn’t like some of the things we did. To our surprise, Nkosazana had a recording session with Kabza, MaWhoo and Nobuhle. After everyone left, Nkosazana laid down the vocals at about 5/6 in the morning.
The song addresses life’s challenges from male and female perspectives. Why was it important for you to include these different viewpoints?
I’m releasing a full body of work soon, I wanted to collaborate more and work with more artists. This allowed us to experiment with Disciples of House and after we laid everything down we gave it to Kabza to do what he does best.
How will the soulful elements of the music enhance the message of the song?
The soulful elements are easygoing and encourage the listener to relax and enjoy. They may inspire some reflection, but my goal was to add a layer of what I love — my signature style, so to speak.
Kabza De Small, Nkosazana Daughter, and Disciples of House bring unique styles to the track. How did you blend these influences?
The intention was to collaborate more this year. After we completed the song with Disciples of House, I felt we needed more voices, which is when I approached Kabza. Nkosazana was also present at the time and that’s how everything came together.
