Gqom singer TDK Macassette is preparing for her return to the music scene after a six-year break.

Thandeka Nompumelelo Mkhwanazi, popularly known as TDK Macassette, is a dancer, singer, radio host and media personality. She got her break in the music industry when she met DJ Maphorisa at a corporate gig.

TshisaLIVE caught up with the Domoroza hitmaker, who explained what she's been up to.

“Covid-19 got the better of me because one had to go home and everything took a bit of a pause, plus there wasn't any movement with regards to performing, so we were back in the struggle for survival,” she said.

Now, after years away, she's finally back in the studio working on new music.

“Hopefully this year, but definitely early next year,” she said when asked about a possible release date.

“Music is phenomenal, especially piano — a genre we as South Africans can be proud of. I like that the pie is now bigger for everyone to share.”
