Media personality Somizi Mhlongo stole the show with his Halloween costume look, channelling musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, better known as Shebeshxt.

Halloween, celebrated annually on October 31, originated in 19th-century in Europe as an ancient Celtic festival, Samhain. The day marked the end of summer and harvest, ushering in the dark, cold winter associated with death.

Traditionally, people donned monster, ghost and devil costumes to ward off harmful spirits.

Halloween has evolved, with people embracing creative and diverse costumes, from celebrities to superhero characters.

Known for his extravagant personality, Somizi's Halloween look did not disappoint. Complete with a topless body painted in tattoos resembling those of Shebeshxt, his look left fans amazed. Social media fans dished out plaudits and said Somizi looked exactly like the musician.

Other South African celebrities joined in on the global Halloween festivities, showcasing their creative costumes on social media.

Singer Tyla, now based in the US, rocked a Bedrock-inspired costume, emulating Halle Berry's iconic character from the Flintstones movie. Her Stone Age chic look included a flowing black wig, bold makeup, and a sassy pose.
