Musician and businessman Lehlohonolo Silela has paid tribute to gospel heavyweight Sipho "Big Fish" Makhabane.
The Umlazi-born musician popularly known as Lehlenzoh said his upbringing was an enriching experience. He had the opportunity to live in various townships across the country, because his relatives live in many parts of the country.
The message behind the song Jericho is one of hope, resilience and encouragement. It aims to uplift and inspire listeners, reminding them that the troubles of yesterday do not define their tomorrow.
The lyrics in the song: “This too shall pass,” aim to encourage listeners to hold on to faith and perseverance in the face of adversity.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the 47-year-old said Makhabane's response to the song was overwhelmingly positive.
“After listening to it [the song], he shared his enthusiasm, saying: ‘I like it! You have to release it, but you need a video for this one. Let's discuss it when you're up [for it].’ His endorsement meant the world to me,” he said.
“As for the role Makhabane played in my life, he's been a significant inspiration and influence on my music. Paying tribute to him through this song was my way of honouring his legacy and contributions to the music industry.""
“My vision for the song was to create a cross-border sound that could bridge the gap between different age groups, genres, and settings — from church to nightclub. I aimed to craft a track that would resonate with people from all walks of life, and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to share this tribute with Makhabane himself.”
