Mzansi celebs are often labelled as arrogant people who think highly of themselves and do nothing to help the less fortunate.

This year we saw some TV personalities and musicians lending a hand to help different communities across South Africa.

Singer TNS

TNS gave back to community members in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal, who were left destitute after their houses were destroyed by heavy rain, strong wind and hail. A tornado ripped through the town, causing extensive damage to homes and schools. It left more than 1,000 families homeless and claimed the lives of seven people. The artist distributed blankets, saying he was touched by the residents' plight and was glad to lend a helping hand.

“Seeing the damage done ngithe angidlule ngifake isandla - iLembe district is where I was born,” he said when sharing pictures on his timeline.

Afrosoul singer Thandeka Zulu is another artist who was horrified by what happened in Tongaat. She previously told TshisaLIVE the most painful part was seeing people picking up what they could save from the rubble. “People's belongings have been swept away by this tornado. I've decided to stop doing our group's rehearsals and come home to see the extent of the damage.”

Black Brain Pictures plough back into school for 67 minutes for Mandela Day

Black Brain Pictures has donated desks and chairs for pupils to commemorate Mandela Day. The production company, which produced Isitha and Isiphetho for e.tv, saw its actors and actresses flock to Thembalethu Primary School in Soweto to donate 67 minutes of their time for Mandela Day. Cast members from the two series included Senzo Radebe, Ontiretsi Radipade, Nokwazi Dlamini, Thulani Mtsweni, Linda Sebezo, Kwanda Manyathi, and many more. Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Thulani Mtsweni, who stars on Isiphetho as Mkhapeni, said they gave the pupils words of encouragement.

“We gave them desks and chairs, writing material and they also received heaters. In the morning, we motivated them to be anything they want to be in life and told them the choice is in their hands. Linda Sebezo gave words of worship to the learners,” he said.

Black Coffee shows love to people from his hometown

Internationally acclaimed DJ Black Coffee donated food parcels in his hometown. On Wednesday, Nathi Maphumulo (his real name), born and raised in Ngangelizwe, Mthatha, donated to people from disadvantaged and underprivileged backgrounds in areas such as Tiphini, Ngangelizwe, Qweqwe, Waterfall, Bhaziya, Silverton, Ngcobo and Clarkbury.

Feed The Nation made a donation towards the food parcels and Somizi Mhlongo donated clothes to 500 children from his clothing line Sompire Kids.

Lungie Maphumulo, the CEO of Black Coffee Foundation, told TshisaLIVE: “It's Christmas time and people need to be loved and cherished, while not forgetting support and we wouldn't have done it without our stakeholders. Driven by Mercedes-Benz, we recently donated food and clothes in Durban. This is a recurring project, we'll assist when we see the need.”
