Gogo Skhotheni has ventured into the club scene with the launch of Club Cavo in partnership with two business associates.
As a sangoma Skhotheni said she has an ndumba where people can meet her and she wanted to create a similar space for her DJ career which would bring her fans closer to her music.
“I ventured into clubbing because I figured out what I could do that would resonate with me being a DJ and bring people together. As a sangoma, I go around and pray for people. I've got a nduma where people can meet me, so this was a way of bringing people closer to my career where they will see me often,” she told TshisaLIVE.
“People who follow me do so for everything I do. I could become a pastor now and people would follow me. I understood my circle and use it wisely by accommodating all of them.”
Club Cavo, in the trendy Maboneng precinct, promises to be a unique and spiritual clubbing experience.
“I chose Maboneng because it's a place where people like to vibe, and as uGogo wama2k, they are there. It means this is not my club but a club for everyone. My club is going to be a different club that stands out because it is covered by my ancestors. There's no special sections, we are all the same there.”
While launching a club may seem like a daunting task, Gogo Skhotheni is no stranger to hard work.
“I make time. I sleep an hour or two. I make sure I have a vision board and I put it into existence.”
Her journey has not been without its challenges, however.
The loss of her son has been a difficult experience, but it has also strengthened her and given her a newfound perspective on life.
“After I lost my son, my faith became stronger. I understood God more. I didn't question him, stop loving him. My 2024 has been the worst year but it had blessings as well. I couldn't see the blessings because of what happened to me but I'm sure where my son is he is smiling down on me.”
Since being thrust into the spotlight, Gogo Skhotheni has faced scrutiny but she says it only motivates her to do more.
“I will never be criticised by someone who is higher than me; it's usually people who want to be me or need to learn from me.
“I want to see how the club will do but I am thinking of having another franchise at a different place. I am launching other things, but it will be clubs. I just want to see how this one works out.”
