Gospel group Spirit of Praise has received a prestigious nomination for Best Gospel Artist at the 2025 Trace Awards, a renowned ceremony that celebrates the diversity and excellence of Afro music across the globe.
The Trace Awards honour artists from various genres, including Afrobeat, dance hall, hip-hop, Afropop and gospel, with competitors from more than 30 countries spanning Africa, South America, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean and Europe.
This year’s awards will feature 24 categories, recognising exceptional contributions to the global music scene.
Spirit of Praise has been making waves in the music industry for more than a decade.
Their recent album Spirit of Praise 10 (Live), released on September 6, showcases 26 powerful tracks.
The album, composed by renowned gospel artist Benjamin Dube, features performances by the Spirit of Praise Choir with prominent gospel figures such as Michael David, Mdumiseni Nzimande, Teboho Skosana, Xolisa Kwinana and Mmatema Moremi.
The album has garnered significant attention on digital platforms, with individual tracks amassing impressive streaming numbers. Mmatema's Kgosi ya Rena has been streamed more than 468,037 times on Spotify, while Dumi Mkokstad’s Asikho Isikhali has achieved more than 2.4-million streams.
Other tracks, such as Canaan Nyathi’s Ukwenzile and Taki Ndou’s O Dzulaho, have also garnered substantial listenership, further cementing Spirit of Praise’s position as a leading force in contemporary gospel music.
With 814,739 monthly listeners on Spotify, Spirit of Praise continues to captivate audiences worldwide with rich harmonies and heartfelt worship.
Other South African artists nominated at this year’s awards include Tyla for her hit single Jump, Tyler ICU for Mnike and the duo Titom & Yuppe for their track Tshwala Bam.
Additionally, Dlala Thukzin, Tyla and Makhadzi are in the running for Best Male Artist and Best Female Artist, respectively.
Notable South African acts such as Nkosazana Daughter, Kelvin Momo and Dlala Thukzin have been recognised for their contributions to the globalisation of South African music in categories such as Best Producer and Best Newcomer.
The Trace Awards voting window is open to fans around the world from January 2 until February 15. Fans can support their favourite artists by voting online.
The awards ceremony will take place on February 26 in Zanzibar.
