WATCH | Doc Shebeleza praised for 'doing more than most' for society
'All I can say is that our industry has lost a legend'

Mzansi's entertainment industry has applauded the contribution of the late Doc Shebeleza.
Music fans and loved ones gathered for the memorial services of Shebeleza, real name Victor Bogopane, at SABC Radio Park in Joburg.
The Ebumnandini hit maker passed away on Thursday morning, at age 57.
In attendance were ANC Gauteng secretary-general TK Nciza, Blondie Makhene, Kwela Tebza, Abigail Khubheka, Kenneth Nkosi, Hashi Elimhlophe, Kaizer Kganyago, Hotstix Mabuza, Mercy Pakela, Arthur Mafokate, DJ Cleo, Sbu Ma'lawyer and many more.
Mourners were entertained by Pure Gold together with Freddy Gwala and Amaskufethe who performed some the songs they recorded with Shebeleza.
On the podium, Generations The Legacy's actress Abigail Khubheka said the Doc was a gentleman, “I'm very heartbroken, like everyone here, I'm devastated and what hurts me the most is that Doc has never been celebrated. Doc has done more than most in this country. How will our children know what we've done in this country — people think we're arrogant. There's hope that things will still happen, can we love each other; guys we got the freedom but we lost the country ... Kulungile Doc.”
Kaizer Kganyago said: “Doc and I have been friends, this is the man who'll call every day, just to check if I'm OK. While I was working at the SABC, Doc said he'll want the national broadcaster to partner with AMAHHA in improving people's lives across the country. This man put all the factors of being celebrity and he decided to help the needy in the country.”
TK Nciza said: “First of all I wouldn't want to come here and talk like a politician, because this is my friend. My second encounter with him was when he accused me of stealing Brown Dash but he was the first to congratulate him when he got accolades. One thing I love about him was that Doc Shebeleza was an activist ... Long live the spirit of Doc Shebeleza.”
The chair of the Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa in KwaZulu-Natal and kwaito singer Tzozo told TshisaLIVE: “All I can say is that our industry has lost a legend and I remember his project where he was building houses for poor people. He once came to Durban and built a house in Inanda and I was there when he was doing the handover.”
The beloved artist will be laid to rest on Saturday, with a service at 9am at the Old Apostolic Church.
His final resting place will be West Park Cemetery's Heroes Acre.
