Controversial blogger Musa Khawula will remain in custody after his appearance in the Randburg magistrate's court on Tuesday.

He faces charges of crimen injuria and cyberbullying.

The case has been postponed to January 29 after Musa's lawyer Ofentse Nkgwang requested time to prepare for his bail application.

A source told TshisaLIVE Musa has been visibly distressed since his arrival at Sun City correctional centre and has been crying. The source said his bail application could be complicated by previous charges — his alleged contempt of court and involvement in a separate murder case.

This was confirmed by NPA Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, who said Musa has two pending cases — one of murder and another of negligent driving.  He is alleged to have murdered his boyfriend in 2022.

Musa's legal team objected to the media's request to broadcast the court proceedings, but this was dismissed by the magistrate.

Musa's latest legal trouble follows a warrant for his arrest issued two months ago after he made defamatory claims about businessman Ze Nxumalo. Musa alleged Nxumalo cheated on his wife Tamaryn Green-Nxumalo.

In July, Musa was jailed for 90 days for contempt of court after he refused to comply with a defamation verdict obtained by ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula’s wife Nozuko, which barred Musa from posting corruption allegations about her on X.
