Hosted for the very first time by dynamic TV and radio presenter Smash Afrika, the fifth season of SA’s hottest reality show, Big Brother Mzansi, is off to a scorching start.

From the moment he stepped onto the stage at the show’s electrifying two-hour premiere on January 12, Smash brought an undeniable energy that set the tone for what promises to be a season like no other.

His high-octane vibe was matched by his impeccable fashion sense, with outfit changes that had viewers buzzing. Whether he was rocking sharp suits or trendy streetwear, Smash delivered looks we didn’t know we needed. His style game was on point, making him not only a host to remember but a fashion icon in the making for this season, which has been dubbed Big Brother Mzansi: Umlilo.

The excitement didn’t stop there. As the show went on, viewers were introduced to the 20 new housemates who, under the 24/7 supervision of the mysterious Big Brother (aka “Biggie”), will have to do their best to outwit each other to win the hearts of the audience so they won’t be evicted during one of numerous public votes. After all, to be crowned the ultimate winner and bag a whopping R2m cash prize, they’ll need to remain isolated in the house for 72 days.

The energy on the stage was electric as the new housemates made their entrance, ready to bring their personalities, strategies and drama into Biggie’s world. From the get-go, it was clear: these 20 housemates are ready to make waves, shake things up and prove that they deserve to be part of the coveted Big Brother Mzansi experience.

But as we all know, Biggie loves a good twist. In a surprising turn of events, he announced four extra housemates would be joining the game.

These additional housemates were selected from a group of six hopefuls in a thrilling housemate decider game. This added an element of strategy and excitement, with the first 20 housemates having the power to shape the game’s dynamics from the very start — watch the clip below.

The upgrades align perfectly with the theme of the season, promising a lavish, high-energy environment where anything can happen. The house is a visual spectacle, setting the stage for what is sure to be a season filled with twists, turns and unforgettable moments.
