The gloves are off as EFF MP Eugene Mthethwa criticises music administrators.

The politician and kwaito group Trompies member took aim at four industry veterans, including two linked to the Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (Ccifsa).

“In soccer we know who Irvin Khoza is, Kaizer Motaung is and why they lead in the soccer fraternity. In the music fraternity, who are these [administrators]? Which record company do they own? Which artists were made by them? What qualifies them to run the industry?” he posted on social media.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the parliamentary portfolio committee on arts and culture member said: “Artists need to know who these guys are and what they have done to lead the music sector.

“Artists have been suppressed for far too long and their demands aren't being met because in the forefront are people without music labels or a history of owning one. They operate Ccifsa as a cartel,” Mthethwa said.

Record producer Stanley Khoza didn't take kindly to the post, calling it childish and attention seeking.

“I'm seeking legal advice because I've been harassed by Eugene for some time and I’ve kept quiet because I don’t believe in acting out of character. I personally don't know what he stands for or wants and what provoked him to do this. I never expected him to stoop that low as a parliamentarian. He has been downplaying my music credentials, which can be traced easily and are in front of his face. (I’ve never been a Ccifsa member),” Khoza told TshisaLIVE.

Federation administrator Mandla Maseko was spitting fire about the post. “First, I don't have energy to use my legal team towards Eugene. Second, I've been in the music industry for two decades and have worked with him before. Third, he can't match me academically — he has nothing to show. If he is tired he must just retire. I'm shocked and devastated. Eugene uses politics as his stepping stone to have influence in the music industry.”

A member of Ccifsa, who asked not to be named, said: “I feel Eugene is washed up and needs to rest.”
