Singer Zameka makes her return after music hiatus

Kiki Riki singer Zameka Nkumanda, known as Drum Queen 90s, is returning to music after a hiatus.
She has released an inspirational song called Qinisela and is planning to bring out more sounds as the year progresses.
The Soshanguve-born artist's journey in music has been shaped by the vibrancy of Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Zameka says: “My genre is dance music, and my versatility allows me to explore Afro-house, Afro-tech and amapiano. I love blending these styles to create music that resonates with people on the dance floor and beyond.”
Her biggest influences and role models include Thandiswa Mazwai, Zonke and Busi Mhlongo whose artistry and storytelling inspire her deeply. Internationally, she has a deep admiration for Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Billie Eilish — their authenticity and lyrical depth have played a huge role in shaping her approach to music.
“Music has always been a natural part of my life, but my love for it truly blossomed during my childhood. Growing up in a tavern with a jukebox in the early 2000s meant I was constantly surrounded by music and joyful people. That environment nurtured my passion, and from an early age, I knew music was my calling,” she said.
She says she doesn’t limit herself to one style of music; she believes in artistic freedom and self-expression. Her songwriting comes from a deeply honest place, often inspired by her own experiences to empathise with others’ stories.
“One of the biggest challenges in my career has been the lack of resources, particularly in amplifying my brand through music videos and full-scale rollouts. However, my love and passion for music always take precedence. I stay focused on my craft, consistently creating and growing as an artist, knowing that dedication and perseverance always lead to new opportunities. That’s why people must look out for new music from me this year.”
