Political analyst Mighti Jamie shared his thoughts on X, saying: “You didn’t know that war or rumours of war would break out. You are good people, and you were just doing your best to do your thing. This post proves that you are a true pan-African.”
Some, also pointed out the importance of staying informed about global events, especially for artists whose work carries significant influence.
X user Cornelius Mambili noted: “Similarly to businesses conducting market research before expansion, artists must remain informed about global affairs. Music possesses immense power, but so does awareness. A performance is not merely entertainment, it serves as a form of messaging. Staying abreast of current events is not solely about political considerations, it is about demonstrating respect, responsibility and a connection to the world.”
X user Sam Mwezezo expressed gratitude for Tems' support.
“Thank you Tems, for your support and solidarity with the DRC. Your voice and compassion help keep the world's attention on the urgent crisis in our country,” said Mwezezo.
The ongoing conflict in the DRC, which is rooted in decades of tension after the 1994 Rwandan genocide, has escalated in recent months.
The situation worsened when M23 rebels took control of the North Kivu province's capital, Goma, earlier this year.
In response to the conflict, Rwandan President Paul Kagame recently directed criticism at South African President Cyril Ramaphosa after the deaths of 13 South African N peacekeeping soldiers in the region.
Amid these tensions, Tems has made it clear that her decision to cancel her performance in Rwanda is a gesture of respect and solidarity with those affected by the ongoing crisis.
Tems has also announced that South African singer Elaine will join her as a special guest for the “Born In The Wild Tour”.
Elaine, a rising star in the South African music scene, will perform alongside Tems at various tour stops, including The Dome in Nasrec, Johannesburg, in January 2025.
Additionally, MTV Base has come on board as an official media partner for the tour, adding to the excitement surrounding the events.

Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Tems has decided to cancel her show in Rwanda which was scheduled as part of her “Born In The Wild Tour”.
The performance, which was set to take place on March 22 at the BK Arena in Kigali, has been called off after Tems became aware of the ongoing tensions between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In a candid post on Twitter, Tems expressed her sincere regret for not being aware of the situation earlier.
“So I recently promoted my show in Rwanda without realising that there is ongoing conflict between Rwanda and [DR] Congo. I never ever intend to be insensitive to real-world issues, and I sincerely apologise if this came across that way. I simply had no idea this was going on,” she said.
Tems also extended her heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the conflict, emphasising her commitment to peace.
“My heart goes out to those affected. Conflict is no joke and I truly hope and pray for peace in this time,” she said.
Her decision was met with understanding and support from many of her fans.
