Actress Thandi Matlaila has joined the cast of SABC's Muvhango.
Thandi has been in the acting business for two decades and has showcased her talent on dramas such as Tshisa, The Queen, Rhythm City, Soul City and Gugu no Andile.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Thandi said viewers will see her on Muvhango from Tuesday night playing the role of a nurse who operates an illegal psychiatric office.
"It’s an exciting moment for me. Celebrating 20 years in the industry and going back to where it all began, the SABC. Muvhango is an iconic SA production that reflects our heritage and I couldn’t be more honoured to be a part of it," she said.
Her character is introduced as a cameo as she supports another new character, Dr Khalema [played by Nicholas Nkuna]. As time goes by we see her in a recurring support role and get to know more about her, her family and her reasons for risking her nurse’s licence for the doctor.”
Thandi said it’s a relatable story for South Africans.
“Nurse Naomi Mayambela is a reflection of many South Africans - underpaid and having to do illegal things within your profession to make an extra buck."
