Selby “Selbeyonce” Mkhize is set to make a comeback on SABC 1's hit drama series Uzalo, playing herself as a guest radio host after her debut on the show in 2018.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Selbeyonce, who is known for her charismatic personality on Ukhozi FM, revealed how she was approached by the show's producers for the role.

“I got a call to come and be a guest radio presenter. I play myself,” she said.

The radio presenter's character is brought in to shake things up at the K-Mash FM radio station, where a presenter is struggling to balance their podcast and radio show commitments.

Selbeyonce's character is met with excitement and scepticism, but she's confident her presence will bring a fresh dynamic to the show.

She admitted playing herself on TV is “much easier” than playing a fictional character, but acknowledged the transition from radio to TV can be tricky.

“The transition isn't that difficult, but this one is very tricky because I am acting and on air at the same time. You get to see the dynamics that take place after switching off the mic.”

Despite the challenges, Selbeyonce is thrilled to be on TV and to be telling real-life stories.

“I've always wanted to be on TV, so it's always exciting to be in front of the camera. The viewers won't find it hard to welcome me. The people who watch Uzalo are people who listen to Ukhozi, so it's going to be seamless.”

Selbeyonce believes the move will take her to new heights.

“I'm a household name working for the most listened-to radio station, and I'm going to be on one of the most watched TV shows. This has worked in my advantage, and it will boost my career big time.”
