Straight from her hospital bed, Puleng Phoofolo is back with a heartfelt love song.
Puleng has released a song titled Keoshebile. The track is a confession and conversation about having a crush on someone you’re too shy to approach but can’t stop admiring.
In July 2024 Puleng was involved in a car crash which claimed the lives of Malome Vector and Lizwi Wokuqala.
Before Lizwi's death Puleng recorded the song with him and says she is now ready to share it with the world.
“Keoshebile marks [my] triumphant return to music after a year-long hiatus after the accident that claimed the lives of my close friends and colleagues Malome and Lizwi. The single features Trymore Way and Lizwi with production by Flash Cortez. It is a deeply emotional and poignant release that narrates my her resilience and passion for music shining through as I pour my soul into this tribute to love and life,” she said.
What does the single Keoshebile represent for you?
Loosely translated, “keo shebile” means I am looking at you. This song is for the ladies mostly and can ripple to the gentlemen, that are not able to go directly to their crush and tell them how they feel. Women are not able to be forthcoming about their emotions and are forced to submit and accept the love they are given, though it is not from the one they are interested in.
How did you select the features?
I selected Lizwi and Trymore Way because I wanted a youthful representation of men to give the latter message of the song. To give the gentlemen a response to when a lady approaches them and tells them that “keo shebile”.
What does the month of love mean for you and how do you celebrate it?
I am single, so Valentine’s bears no meaning for me. Until I find someone I will continue to entertain lovers. But as a concept, the month of love is a beautiful month that allows lovers to express their love to one another.
When did Lizwi record the song and playing it back now, how does it feel?
Lizwi recorded his verse in May of 2024. Playing it back reminds me of the beautiful connection he and I had in and out of the studio. Initially it was supposed to be part of my EP I was going to release in 2024, but due to the unforeseen circumstances I decided to release it as a single.’
What was your relationship with Lizwi?
We had a beautiful bond. We clicked instantly. I saw him as my brother and he saw me as his sister.
Have you fully recovered from the accident?
No, I have not made a full recovery. Slowly but surely I am getting there, and emotionally, I am taking each day as it comes.
What are your plans for 2025?
My plan is to release a double-sided EP, five Afro pop songs and five gospel songs.
