Ntethe Mposwa has made a musical comeback with the release of his latest single Kumnandi.
This after signing a distribution deal with Universal Music Group (UMG) as an artist and as the owner of his own record label “Ntethe Global Effect”.
Ntethe says Kumnandi is a triumphant return to gospel music for him after launching into Afro-soul in 2022. He is now taking a different route to further explore his other musical talents.
“The song takes a traditional gospel approach, featuring harmonious vocal arrangements and minimal instrumentation, creating a nostalgic sound reminiscent of classic gospel tunes. The lyrics celebrate the joy of faith, expressing the deep fulfilment of being a believer. My heartwarming delivery, paired with the song’s pure and simplistic style,” he said.
The Lusikisiki-born singer has long been a notable figure in the gospel genre.
Throughout his career in gospel, even before transitioning to secular music, he continued to collaborate with and write songs for some of South Africa's most cherished artists, including Berita and Amanda Black. Now, with the release of Kumnandi, Ntethe reconnects with his gospel roots while also celebrating his exciting new journey with UMG.
“I am happy to announce I am signed to UMG, as an artist and record label executive. This is a long-time dream come true to be recognised by a major label after having been an independent artist for so many years. I am excited about my next single from my upcoming EP.
“The song is called Imithwalo Yethu and I feature gospel legend Kholeka, who has been my role model since I was a young boy. We will announce the release date soon. South Africans should watch the press for details. I believe this song is going to transform people’s lives.”
Ntethe started his music journey in 2007 as a backing vocalist while also writing songs, playing the keyboard and composing. His break came in 2016 when he was nominated at the SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards under Best Newcomer, then went on to win the Best Music Video Award in 2017 for his song Ngaphandle Kwakho.
Then Ntethe bagged the Best Worship Album award at the Ingoma Awards in 2018. Ntethe also received an MEC Recognition Special Award for uplifting local talent in 2018 and 2019.
