The emotional toll of loving a fighter: Dricus du Plessis's fiancée opens up

Vasti Spiller, fiancée of UFC champion Dricus du Plessis, has opened up about emotional journey she experiences every time her partner steps into the octagon.

In a candid “get ready with me” video, she spoke of the mix of emotions she feels as she prepares to watch Dricus fight.

“Getting ready to go watch your man fight is weird. It’s this feeling of going to watch the same movie, but you forgot the ending. You feel fear, but mostly you finally understand the meaning of hope,” she said.

“It’s exciting, but you can’t wait for it to be over. 'I’ll stand by you' has a new meaning since I fell in love with you.”

On January 14 Vasti announced their engagement and shared a video of Dricus asking for her hand in marriage at his birthday in front of friends and family.

Gushing over her partner, Vasti wrote a heartfelt note after the proposal.

“I signed up to become a boxing coach in 2022, because my grandfather said the day we stop learning is the day we start dying. I did not think the day I walked into @citboxing my life would change forever,” she wrote.

“God knows when. God knows how. God loves you in every season. God is the reason I fell in love with a man that makes me want to live and not regret anything. Life is not always easy, but for moments like these ... well every second is worth it.

“I can’t wait to marry you @dricusduplessis and see what God has called us to do. Love you.”
