Actors and musicians embarked on a crime awareness march at  Ikusasalentsha Secondary school, in Inanda, Durban, on Friday.

The march was led by Mbuso Zulu alongside Uzalo's Simosibucayi Buthelezi and rapper Duncan, with members of the Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA).

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the founder of Usengahintsha (You can still change) Mbuso Zulu said it was time for the community to stand up and create a better society, as crime was “winning in our streets”.

“We did it again! Usengashintsha Team had an impactful day at Ikusasalentsha Secondary School, empowering students to take a stand against crime, drug abuse, and GBV.

“What prompted us to host this march is that we can see whenever murder is reported on the news it's always in Inanda and even at schools students tend to embrace criminal activities through peer pressure,” he said.

Rapper Duncan also didn't mince his words, saying criminals are taking over the streets and crime is becoming a norm.

“When citizens go to police stations it's either there are officers but no state cars (police vans) or you report a case the police drag their feet on. Meanwhile criminals are terrorising our communities. So, I'd like to applaud Mbuso Zulu for this great initiative. It shows that we are tired of criminals and the fact that they are now infiltrating even schools because that's where pupils experience peer pressure from their friends,” he said.
