Khuli Chana has emphasised the importance of collaboration and cosigning young artists in the music industry.
The rapper recently collaborated with rappers Blxckie and 25k on a new track, which is part of KFC Streetwise's Original Feeds Original campaign to celebrate the power of influence and inspiration.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Khuli highlighted the importance of passing on the baton to the next generation, recalling how rapper HHP, who died in 2018, gave him a head start in his career.
“How I came into the industry, I was put on by HHP. I marvelled at his humility, creativity and talent. Coming from that, all I know today was from that. So that's what this project is about,” he said.
Khuli went on to praise the young stars for cementing their cultural identity in their music. “These guys are true to their authenticity. 25k being cut from the cloth of what I call NewTswako, which is inspired by Motswako. Blxckie, these people are embracing their home language in their music and I respect that.
“There's power in numbers. Collaborating and cross-pollinating is the winning formula to the evolution of South African music. The old and the new can co-exist.”
In addition to his music, Khuli Chana is also involved in philanthropic initiatives. One is a back-to-school campaign with the Khuli Chana Foundation in collaboration with Holly Foundation, providing school shoes and uniforms for 400 children in North West and Gauteng.
Khuli said there's more culture-shifting moves in the pipeline for him.
