The trial in connection with the shooting incident involving Tebogo Thobejane has been postponed to March 31 at the Alexandra magistrate's court.
The actress was in court on Tuesday when the two suspects were remanded in custody.
In October 2023 Thobejane’s car was shot at by unknown attackers as she was driving from Saints Champagne Lounge in Sandton with a friend and their driver. The suspects pulled up next to their car and shot at them, leaving her friend fighting for her life in hospital for longer than a month. Tebogo escaped the incident unharmed but her friend is struggling to walk and has little feelings in her legs.
The suspects were arrested last year in April.
A source close to Tebogo says she wants to see the case concluded. “Tebza [Tebogo] feels the matter is taking too long and the culprits need to account,” said the source.
Another said: “During court proceedings Tebogo was not in court, we know that the matter has taken a toll on her. She just wants this matter to be concluded, she's frustrated by the slow pace”.
Tebogo took to her Instagram stories, saying she was determined to get justice.
“Every day we are told to be silent. We are told not to speak out, not to show our pain if we are victims — to hide. In this country, at this moment as women, are constantly told to be quiet, as if it's our fault that people choose to hurt us,” she wrote.
“Any man who tries to kill woman is a coward. It is heartbreaking that South Africa has reached a point where, if we are not being slut-shamed, we are being attacked — simply because some men refuse to take responsibility for their actions. When they can't control us, they try to destroy us. But I refuse to be afraid. I refuse to give up on my life. No coward will ever break me.”
