Mizz Dee is making a highly anticipated return to the music scene with the release of her latest single Remember featuring Jay Sax.

The track is a heartfelt ode to the magic of love and the nostalgia of meeting a significant other for the first time.

TshisaLIVE spoke to the singer about her musical journey and more.

Remember carries a deep emotional message about love and nostalgia. What inspired you to write this song and is there a personal story behind it?

The song is a personal story about my music journey and how making music makes me happy. In this song, I have personified music and the love I share with my craft. When listening to the song, I want people to go to their happy place, regardless of all the pressures we face in the world today. Remember is a song I dedicate to myself — a reminder that I still have a lot to offer the music industry.

Your collaboration with Jay Sax adds a unique, soulful element to the track. How did this partnership come about and what was it like working together?

We had planned to work on his project, so we scheduled studio time. While working together, I was inspired to write Remember. Jay and I have always worked well together and I knew that with my voice and his sax we would create something magical.

You’ve been in the music industry for a while but this release marks a new chapter in your journey. How does Remember reflect your evolution as an artist?

Remember has a more distinct and mature sound. I have never felt so confident about my position in the music world. I took more creative control in producing this song — it feels like a personal gift from God. The creative process was effortless.

Amapiano has become a dominant genre in South Africa and globally. What drew you to incorporate its elements into your sound and how do you see your style fitting into the genre?

My style caters to a niche market. I love creating timeless music — songs that leave people inspired and remind them that love conquers all. My music is part of the soulful experience of amapiano. I look forward to exploring other genres in the near future.

Your musical influences range from gospel and R&B to South African house legends. How have these influences shaped your artistry and the music you create today?

When creating music, I always prioritise depth. I want my audience to truly feel my emotions as I express myself in a song. Growing up listening to these artists helped me add different layers to my craft, making my music richer and more meaningful.

You’ve worked with major producers and labels over the years. How has that experience influenced your approach to making music now and do you have any dream collaborations?

These experiences have shown me that in music there are no limits. An artist needs to have a strong brand identity that resonates with their target audience. I really look forward to working with Black Motion. My other dream collaborations are just a call away and I will keep putting in the work until they want to work with me.

The industry is constantly changing, especially with digital platforms transforming how artists connect with fans. How do you navigate the modern music landscape, and what role does social media play in your career?

The digital space can make or break an artist. What we sell to our fans is just a fingertip away. Digital platforms have given us, as artists, the opportunity to create our own spaces. I maximise this by going live whenever I’m in the studio, feeding my audience with live performances and keeping them engaged. It’s an exciting time to be in the industry, thanks to digital advancements.

With Remember now out, what can fans expect next from Mizz Dee? Are there any upcoming projects, albums or performances in the pipeline?

I’m in the studio working on a few singles. My fans should get ready to be well fed — I have so much more in store for them and they can expect to be blown away.
