Thapelo Molomo has undergone a weight-loss transformation, shedding an impressive 15kg — perhaps with more to come.

The Idols SA season 18 winner took to his timeline recently showcasing his progress since starting his journey in January.

The singer told TshisaLIVE he went from 120kg to 105kg, but his goal is to reach 90kg.

“I wanted to gain confidence and look good but what pushed me most is when I was starting to buy clothes they couldn't fit me nicely. They were tight, so I thought I needed to take care of my health and my body — that's when I started to hit the gym,” he said.

The secret behind his weight loss had been going to the gym six times a week, only resting on Sundays, cutting down on his sugar intake and eating two meals a day.

“I eat healthy food. What helps with weight loss is eating healthily, taking your greens with protein and not consuming fat. I also drink plenty of water and get enough rest.”

The perks of his new lifestyle change have been the effect it's had on his mental health and work.

“I think better. I am able to handle stress much better. Physically I am much more energised. My vocals have also improved, clearly.

“The most challenging part of my weight-loss journey is cravings. Having to cut down on things drastically was not easy. You go to a restaurant and your friends eat whatever they want and I have to stay disciplined.”

Living on a cruise ship can be a unique and challenging experience, but for Thapelo it's been a journey of growth and self-discovery. As a singer on a cruise ship, he has had to adapt to a new way of life, away from family and friends. Despite the challenges, he's found ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and stay connected with loved ones.

“We have buffets every breakfast and dinner and I choose the healthier options. It's easier to maintain because everything is prepared, which makes it easy to stick to my diet plan.”

He has so much to be grateful for, he added. Apart from working as a singer on the ship he was also recently promoted to being a production manager.

“My vocal strength and ability have improved a lot because I sing every day. I am working on releasing an EP when I come home during springtime.”
