Khuzani Mpungose has shot up trend lists for his daring flying entrance at the Blue Nation Festival held at Carnival City on March 22 in celebration of 15 years in the entertainment industry.

His performance has sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising his creativity and others mocking him.

"I believe if you are being criticised, you are doing something good. Those who are not criticised are not doing anything. Once you do something you gain a lot of haters so you start trending. People who make you trend the most are the ones who do not love people who are pushing," he told TshisaLIVE.

"In their minds, they think they are destroying you, forgetting that bad publicity is good publicity sometimes. Dogs only bark at a moving car so that means I am moving. I don't entertain critics but I enjoy them."

In 2019 the KwaZulu-Natal star pulled the stunt during his Gcwalisa Imabhida concert at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

"I started flying in 2019. No one inspired me to do it. An idea came to me that I wanted to fly. I started going to Moses Mabhida Stadium for bungee jumping after that. I had the idea of flying during my concerts. I was not inspired by Chris Brown. I was not inspired by Makhadzi. I was inspired by myself."

The concert, which saw him showcase his accolades and sing some of his biggest hits, was not only about his achievements but was also about giving back to the community.

He launched a campaign to support students struggling to pay their National Student Financial Aid Scheme debts.

Khuzani has a history of helping students register to study at university, and one of his success stories is Dr Nqubeko Langa, now an intern doctor at Addington Hospital in Durban.

"It's important for those who have bread to eat but also share with others. It makes me happy and proud to see today we have a doctor and there are many others who have benefited from the initiative."

He has an SMS code which will be active on April 5 where people will be able to contribute towards his fundraising initiative.

"I had received many messages from people asking me for help and I thought it was important for me to plow back into the community as I celebrate 15 years.

"I will monitor every cent received and we are going to make it public when we donate. People will see who and how many people we donate to.

"The feedback from the public will determine where it should go. There will be a certain portion of the funds that will go to the foundation. I urge those who are financially stable to come and support me so we can help more people. Let's help the future of our communities and the country."
