Actor Sbonakaliso Mazibuko says piece jobs paved the way for him to get into the film industry.

Sbonakaliso is best known for his character on e.tv's series Smoke&Mirrors as Sipho and has starred in shows such as Uzalo, eHostela and Durban Gen.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the KwaMashu-born actor said he was not privileged to attend university after matric. He had to do piece jobs for a living and pursue the arts part-time.

“At a later stage I resigned from where I was working and decided to concentrate on acting. During the period I was doing my piece jobs I was motivated that one day things will work out pursuing my acting career,” he said.

“In high school I was given a task to copy one of my schoolteachers who was feared by everyone. I had to copy him and do everything he does. I did very well on this task to a point that I was approached by everyone including teachers and learners to consider acting as a career.”

Sbonakaliso has been nominated at various award ceremonies such as the American Black Film Festival and Simon Sabela Awards. “I am the man I am today because of the permanent structures that were built around me. God's promises gave me life,” he added.
