Comedian Trevor Gumbi has landed a headliner slot in Kings and Queens of Comedy.
The show will take place on Saturday at Emperors Palace, Ekurhuleni, featuring some of Mzansi's top comedians such as Darren Maule, Darren “Wackhead” Simpson, Chris Forrest, Joey Rasdien and Alfred Adriaan.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Trevor said this venture is one of his biggest accomplishments.
“My audience is varied, so instead of pandering to a room of peers I’m fully cognitive that in our audience are people who might’ve heard my jokes poorly recited around the office water cooler and are looking forward to hearing it from 'the horse's mouth'. And because we have the immense responsibility of bringing virgin comedy ears to our little culture, I’ll prepare a set suitable for all.”
Trevor said he has seen the local comedy industry grow, with new audiences emerging and a new generation of bright-eyed talent taking to the stage. He is excited about the industry being in the capable hands of “young'uns”.
“I’ve already decided I will give it my all. If I can’t promise myself that, then I don’t do it. So this is an important mark on my diary and I’ve already got my clothes laid out on my bed — my wife says we can’t sleep like this for the next five nights but I’m standing by this!”
