It's said fans are unhappy with DJ Maphorisa after he allegedly left them high and dry.

Maphorisa, whose real name is Themba Sekowe, was scheduled to perform at the Phola Sundays event at Scotch and Sofa in Daveyton and thousands of fans flocked to the venue to catch a glimpse of him playing his hit songs.

According to event organiser Zwelakhe Masango — when explaining what happened — he made numerous timeslot changes to accommodate DJ Maphorisa but he still failed to pitch up at the venue.

“DJ Maphorisa dented my brand with his antics. Now people will never trust me in events I hope to host.”

He alleged that the DJ also failed to pitch up for a gig at a local venue in March, suggesting he may have a problem with performing in the area.

“All the talks were successful before the event and transactions made to him, and he released his gig guide with our event on it. But what he did on Sunday, I might not recover from it. He has killed my brand. We've engaged with his team for clarity and they agreed to issue a statement but the damage has been done — we want our refund.”

Phola Sunday shared a statement addressing the matter.

“We would like to first thank all the guest who came out in numbers to support Phola Sundays hangover Easter edition and the sponsors (SAB). The turnout was great and all the DJs showed up and played their part.

“It was with sadness and heartbreaking when DJ Maphorisa did not show up as he was one of the main reasons people had paid for tickets to the event. We tried our best to communicate on the day but him not showing up was out of our hands and control.

“We have asked him and his team to issue a statement as the no show has crushed what we've tried to build as Phola Sundays. A statement from him will liberate us as a brand and we will try to do better than this event.

“Our sincere apology to the guests that came through to support and we will do everything in our power to get the statement from 'Phori' and move on from this. We thank everyone for the unlimited support you show us and your continued support is and will be highly appreciated. Thank you.”

Efforts to reach to DJ Maphorisa were unsuccessful at the time of publishing.
