Radio 2000 presenter DJ Sbu has decided to use a double-barrelled surname to honour his biological father.
While interviewing Sol Phenduka on his YouTube podcast channel Hustlers Corner, DJ Sbu revealed he would henceforth be known as Sbusiso Gedla Leope kaNkosi and no longer as Sbusiso Arthur Leope.
“The surname Leope belongs to the father that raised me, hence I have Iziphandla (cultural wrist bands). I have been going through the name-change process traditionally,” DJ Sbu shared.
“My biological father, Mr Nkosi, has sadly since passed and he didn't pay damages to my mother's family since I was born. So I was raised by my stepfather Mr Leope. He's the man that married my mother.
“I loved both of them dearly but they are no longer around. I'm the man that I am today because of Ntate Leope.

“It's been a long, painful, emotional, challenging but very educational process, but I'm glad I had to go through it with the guidance of my elders.
“My next step is to go to home affairs to add my biological father's surname.
“I've eventually finished writing my book, which I've been delaying to release because I really want to explain everything as best as I could properly without misrepresenting my culture,” he added.
